I’m Keeping YouTube Premium Despite a 53% Increase in Price

Have you heard about the recent price increase for YouTube Premium? Google announced in April 2021 that the price for the Family Plan would be going up from $14.99 to $22.99 per month. This is an increase of 53%, which is a huge jump. As a subscriber enjoying ad-free videos and music on YouTube Premium for a while, I was certainly taken aback by the news. However, despite the increase, I’ve decided to stick with the Family Plan. In this blog post, I’ll share why I’ve made this choice and believe it’s worth it for my family.

First, one of the most significant benefits of the YouTube Premium Family Plan is sharing the subscription with up to six family members. My partner, friends, and parents can enjoy ad-free videos and music.

Secondly, the ability to download videos and music for offline listening is a great feature for my family. We love to take road trips. With YouTube Premium, we can download and watch videos beforehand without any buffering or interruptions. We can also save music for offline listening, avoiding the need to stream music while on the road without internet connectivity.

Thirdly, the value proposition of YouTube Premium compared to other streaming services is still strong. A single Netflix subscription costs $15.99 monthly, so YouTube’s Family for an extra $11 monthly is a good value. Plus, the music library on YouTube is extensive, with plenty of genres and artists. As a result, we use this service a lot more than we initially thought we would.

Fourthly, playing music in the background without keeping the app open is convenient. As someone who likes to multitask, I enjoy listening to music while doing other things on my phone. Whether checking emails or scrolling through social media, uninterrupted music streaming on YouTube Premium is a significant benefit.

Lastly, the ad-free viewing experience is the biggest reason I’ve decided to stick with the Family Plan despite the increase. YouTube ads can be annoying, and they disrupt the viewing experience. Without ads, we can watch videos without interruptions, and our kids can enjoy their favorite creators without advertisements.

The recent YouTube Premium Family Plan price increase shocked many subscribers, including myself. However, after careful consideration, it’s worth the extra cost to maintain the ad-free viewing and music experience I’ve come to value.

In addition, I can share the subscription with up to six family members, download videos and music for offline viewing, play music in the background, and enjoy a vast library of content without interruptions. Overall, YouTube Premium is still a strong value proposition worth sticking with.
