My Review of Starry: Don’t Judge a Soda by Its Packaging

Have you heard of Starry? If not, don’t feel bad—it’s a new lemon-lime replacement for Sierra Mist by Pepsi. It comes in light green and yellow packaging that looks generic, and the taste isn’t too shabby, either. But is it really worth switching from your tried and true Sprite to this knockoff version? Let’s break down my review of Starry soda from Pepsi.

What does Starry taste like?

Starry by Pepsi is a unique soft drink experience, but it isn’t for everybody. The taste has more lime than lemon and is a bit sweeter than Sprite. If you’re a fan of Sprite, Starry will most likely disappoint.

Many people have been longing for the return of Sierra Mist, and Starry just serves to remind us of the refreshing soda we’re missing out on. I will drink Starry every once in a while, but Pepsi should bring back Sierra Mist.

What’s up with the Starry packaging?

Whoever came up with Starry’s packaging design should be outright fired. I was horrified when I saw the pallet in the aisle at Walmart. It looked just like a generic soda! Starry’s design looks incredibly cheap and unappealing with its light green on top and pale yellow bottom – it’s an eye sore!

Starry’s only distinctive feature to differentiate itself from its store brand counterparts is a lemon adorning its name on the case. Unfortunately, this isn’t enough to make Starry stand out and catch consumer attention.

Such a blatant disregard for aesthetic appeal shows me Pepsi didn’t care much about producing attractive marketing materials or enticing customers.

Nutritional Value

Starry has 90 calories, 0g of fat, 20 mg of sodium, 24g of total carbohydrates, 24g of total sugars, and 0g of protein. All things considered, I think this is pretty standard for a soft drink…or at least what we can expect from something that’s essentially just Sprite with a different name.

Overall Review of Starry

I don’t know how to feel about Starry soda by Pepsi. It’s hard to square the fact that this whimsical beverage, with its overly cutesy name, is being presented as a legitimate option for whatever restaurant I’m at.

While I suppose I can stop being so serious and just order it, part of me wishes I could still order Sierra Mist. This lemom-lime beverage has its place for sure, but sometimes it’s easier just to order what you know won’t make you feel embarrassed when you have to explain why you asked for something called Starry in the first place.

All in all, Pepsi’s new lemon-lime replacement for Sierra Mist isn’t bad. It just doesn’t quite measure up to its predecessor in terms of taste and sophistication.

If you’re looking for something sweet with a bit of lime kick, then give Starry a try; otherwise, stick with Sprite or find another alternate beverage instead! Gen Zers looking for something different should definitely give it a chance. Don’t forget that even though it says “lemon-lime” on the label, there’s more lime than lemon in this drink! Plus, the packaging is similar to the Great Value brand found at Walmart.
